Keeping Your Company Details Up to Date with Companies House

Appointing a director, moving offices, changing your company name — whatever's changing, there's a form for it! Here's how to keep Companies House up-to-date.

Why Keeping Your Details Accurate Matters

Your company's details change over time, and that's completely normal. Directors come and go, offices move, names evolve. What matters is making sure the Companies House register keeps up

HMRC and Companies House rely on the information held on your record to get in touch with you. If it's out of date, you risk missing important documents — or even facing penalties for inaccurate information. The good news? Updating your company details is usually quick, and most changes can be filed online in minutes.

Which Form Do I Need?

There are several forms for updating your company's information. Most can be filed online through your Companies House WebFiling account, though a few still require a paper submission. Here's a plain-English rundown of the most common ones.

Changing Your Registered Office Address — AD01

Use the AD01 form to update your company's registered office address. This is filed online, and it's worth taking a moment to get right — this is the address where all official correspondence from HMRC and Companies House will land, so make sure it's somewhere you'll actually see post arrive.

If you're currently using a home address and would rather keep your personal details off the public register, we offer a registered office address service . You'll get the use of our address in the City of London, and we'll handle the change on your behalf — no forms for you to complete.

Changing Your Company Name — NM01 or NM04

Looking to rebrand or simply update your registered name? You'll need either the NM01 or NM04 form, depending on how the change is being made:

NM01 — for a name change made by special resolution. Can be filed online or by post.

NM04 — for a name change made via the articles of association. Post only.

Updating Director Details — CH01

The CH01 form covers changes to a director's name, correspondence address, country or state of residence, nationality, or occupation. Keeping this information up to date matters, since it's how HMRC and Companies House will reach you directly. File online through WebFiling, or by post if you'd prefer.

Updating PSC Details — PSC04

If a Person with Significant Control (PSC) needs to update their name, address, occupation, or similar details, this is the form to use — much like CH01, but specifically for PSCs rather than directors. Available online or by post using the PDF version.

Appointing a New Director — AP01

Growing your board? Use the AP01 form to appoint a new director — there's no limit on how many directors your company can have, and no time restriction on filing. This one's online only via WebFiling, with one exception: if you're reinstating a previously struck-off company and need to reappoint a director, you'll need to file by post instead.

Correcting a Previously Filed Document — RP01

Mistakes happen. If something in a document you've already submitted needs correcting — say, a director's date of birth was wrong on the original incorporation paperwork (something CH01 can't fix) — the RP01 form is what you need. Because these changes involve more sensitive corrections, RP01 typically requires a manual review, so it must be filed by post.

Where to Check Your Filing Status

Once submitted, every filing appears in the Filing History tab on your company's Companies House page — but only once it's been reviewed and accepted. When it goes through, you'll see the update reflected live on the public register, so you'll always know exactly where things stand.

Not sure which form applies to your situation, or want us to handle the filing for you? Our team is on hand to guide you through it — just get in touch and we'll take it from there.
